Leaders School

The presence of people capable of providing leadership in our organizations, is not only a need by itself but a topic that arise a lot of interest today. Within a leader, there are many human qualities. Along history we find leaders who were transformers, reformers, public servants or creators of new societies. Only through the strength that provides the culture, the education, and the spontaneity, the big leaderships can arise in difficult moments; its ability to generate adherence, illusion and enthusiasm around its person is the leader’s key difference.

Along the course, we study in depth the leader’s core skills; defining the leadership, its virtues, its values, its strengths, the ability to command his/her life and that of the others in order to reach a previously defined goal, which is of common interest for all involved, as well as for the society as a whole.

There is no secret formula for the leadership. Contrary to what many books, magazines and theoretical works, to turn into a good leader is a vital project that is nourished of our knowledge and of our education, effort and steadfastness, but also of the experience that with the years we are acquiring. To systematize the leadership across formulae, tricks and advices is simple and not very useful, since the leadership, like life, is made of experiences (good and bad) and it is built in the leader’s character and skills in order to overcome all the obstacles. In this sense, the leader creates on the one hand a personal and non-transferable project, but to which a finished theoretical and practical formation must be added.

Character and leadership

The leadership needs to be based on the character. The current economic crisis is a good school for managerial leaders, who has to excel themselves before the difficulties and consolidate their skills, that is to say, its character. An absence of character, then, can prevent the ability to lead.

The leadership by character model, proposes to the directive managers to focus its efforts on exploring their characters, because only this way they will manage to develop a leadership model on a conscious and effective way. Likewise, they will have to know very well the environment in order to fit in the group and to become truly responsible for the project that they try to lead.

In fact, the leadership by character model is not new. The Ancient Greeks realized that the character was made of four virtues: courage, restraint, justice and knowledge. Later, the leaders of the 1st century added the hope, the love and the faith. In fact, the faith is a central element in this leadership model, since it is the one that allows the human beings to believe and bet for what they could not have tried yet rationally.

Seven elements of the character:

The character, then, consists of seven elements that work jointly and can be described as:

Faith: Values-based Leadership, which is evident through facts.

Justice: To lead doing the right thing, being fair, stimulating and being generous with the team, despite the inherent difficulty of the task.

Restraint: The leaders also have to be humble. Along with this essential characteristic for any person development, it is necessary to add self-control and passion, in order to carry out any project.

Hope: Closely related to faith, and undoubtedly needed, to confront a complex and difficult environment.

Knowledge: The leader must add experiences and knowledge to nourish its character, applying them in an effective way.

Esteem towards other people: It is a key component to lead others with sincere empathy and concern for their needs.

Courage: It is necessary to lead with courage and to be capable of making use all those challenges and opportunities that are arising along the way.

Apart from these seven key components, the leadership by character model, contains 36 behaviors that will allow us to develop these skills. And although it is not a magic formula, the model constitutes a basic way to face the main current challenges, which are focused precisely on the character and the leadership.

Young Leaders School

The Foundation of Strategic and International Studies, (FESEI), present the project of “Leadership for young people” through the “Young Leaders School”.

At present, our activities are centered on the professionals’ top education in the fields of the International relations, Foreign policy, Diplomacy, International Economy, International security, Leadership and Prospective and Economic Intelligence. FESEI, currently collaborates with several foreign and Spanish Universities and with the Defense and Foreign Affairs Ministries.

Given FESEI consciousness of the need in our society of a high education in “Leadership for young people”, we have created the: “Young Leaders School”, directed to promote the leadership skills in the crucial teenage years; which from a psychological, emotional, cognitive and social point of view, is a very important period for the future adult and for our society as a whole.

In Spain, numerous Courses and Master’s degree are prioritizing managerial leadership skills, while human values are considered of secondary importance for the company’s performance. In FESEI, we think that the most important resource for the society are the human resources. Motivated persons, concerned with the common good and motivated with the organization goals, not only add real value, but multiply it.

In FESEI, we think that our society needs competent Managers, and those who are managed, needs to assume with conviction the authority of the leader, as well as work as a team for the common good. Nevertheless, these leaders must know well the way forward, having strong ethical values and principles, showing these guidelines to others and being ready to serve our society.

That’s why we believe as essential to provide the youth with an Ethical Leadership education centered and adapted to such an important period between the infancy and the adult age.

To address questions regarding the personal and professional future of the adolescent, taking into account the high level of the teaching experience that FESEI offers, is a necessary service for the Spanish society, especially in the current situation of the Spanish economy.

The teaching begins with the basic concepts of the Ethical Leadership. Later on, it takes place the investigation, analysis and synthesis process, with the aim of successfully complete a team work as efficiently as possible. Special attention will be paid to developing and encouraging the pupil’s debate, oratory and argue skills. Being important to speak and to listen and respect opposite opinions. To argue, to convince successfully, to speak in public, mastery of voice tone and of the corporal gesticulation are also important. To influence partners and the decisions taken positively, as a beginning towards Ethical Leadership.

In the end, to help the adolescent to confront challenges efficiently, with security and trust on him/herself.
